If you’ve driven past jetBlue Park recently you’ve probably noticed they’re clearing a large section of land.
A number of people have been asking on Nextdoor.com and Facebook what was going on there.
The answer: Skyplex — a previously-announced, massive, mixed-use complex which will be built on the land owned by the Southwest Florida International Airport.
But I wouldn’t spend too much time daydreaming about which restaurants or stores might be located there, because the 1,150 acre site (870 acres available for commercial development, while the remaining 280 acres are for aviation purposes) is expected to take between 30 to 50 years to build out.
What you’re seeing on Daniels Parkway is one of the first phases. We already have the Sky Walk Plaza, of course, and Gartner is building a new campus on the airport property. Both are part of the Skyplex project.
Gateway Sun readers have contacted us asking if businesses like Target, Bass Pro Shops and which restaurants will be located as part of the new build-out. The answer is that right now we no idea what companies will open there. We do know the identity of one business trying to lease space, but we’ve agreed (at their request) not to name them at this time.
Once we find out the names of some companies who will be part of Skyplex, we’ll let you know obviously.
