From time to time there are water pressure issues in Gateway. The general feeling is that it usually happens when too many people are running water simultaneously.

One way the residents can help prevent this from happening is if they only water their lawns on their scheduled days. But as with anything else, some people don’t know or don’t care when their watering days are and they water their lawn when they feel their lawn needs it.

Ed Tinkle, who is a likely candidate for the GSCDD board, offered an idea to put an end to that practice.

“You guys can’t fine. The only thing you could do, and you have the ability to now do it, is you can surcharge the hell out of it. So if you wanna water and your watering day is Wednesday, Saturday, and you’re watering on Monday, Tuesday, that water’s $11 a gallon,” said Tinkle.

Nobody else in the room was enthusiastic about the $11/gallon idea.

What Tinkle meant by having “the ability” to do it was with the new water meters, they could probably configure the billing system to charge different rates at different times.

However, it’s not clear if the GSCDD would need approval from the South Florida Water Management District to charge $11 per gallon for water on Monday, Tuesday.

Tinkle made his statement on June 2, 2016 at the Gateway Services Community Development District meeting.
