When we first broke the story that a Publix would be built on airport property located near the corner of Gateway Boulevard and Daniels Parkway, everyone began talking about the new Publix – except Publix.

That should change soon.

We’re hearing rumblings that the formal announcement could come this week, or possibly next week at the latest.

The Sun has also learned that groundbreaking is expected in the summer of 2016, and the plan is to have the shopping center open in 2017. The developer will be North American Properties.

In addition, we can report that the lease has been signed by all relevant parties.

The project is officially a ‘go’.
