In the spring of 2017 there was a lot of tension in the Stoneybrook community. Four out of the seven seats on the HOA board were up for election and the residents were demanding changes.
While all four incumbents decided to run again, so did a group of four residents who had never run before to challenge them head on.
The residents were being harassed by the security company at the direction of the board, and the four newcomers vowed to put an end to the nonsense once they took control of the HOA. There was a ton of chatter on Facebook, all kinds of talk between neighbors in the community, and support for the new four was through the roof. Things were going to be different.
Everybody was behind these guys it seemed. Finally, change was coming to Stoneybrook.
But then came election day and guess what happened? Only 26.7% of the available votes were cast.
Many who spoke up in favor of the new four just figured that everybody else would vote, so they didn’t bother voting.
The four incumbents swept the elections, and the harassment from the security company continues to this day.
The lesson? With low voter turn-out anything can happen.
So please go and vote for your chosen candidates. There’s two ways you can vote TODAY.
One, you can vote by mail. You’ll need to do it quickly however, as the ballots must be received by 5:00pm on the sixth day before the election. So I guess that would be October 31. Here’s where to go to get your ballot:
Two, you can participate in early voting. Early voting stations are open from 10:00am to 6:00pm until November 3 in various locations around Lee County. The closest one to Gateway is the library on Gunnery Road. But since Gateway residents work all over, I will publish the entire list of early voting stations at the end of this article.
You can always wait until election day to vote as well, which is November 6. Gateway’s two voting precincts are at Next Level Church located at 11081 Gateway Boulevard and Gateway Trinity Church at 11381 Gateway Boulevard.
Regardless of how you choose to vote, just GET OUT AND VOTE.
Take the time to drive to the library in Lehigh and vote today. That way you won’t have to worry about lines on November 6. Your vote is crucial not only to Gateway, but both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate are being contested as well.
So it’s an important mid-term election for the country, and for Gateway.
The elections could be decided simply by whose group decides to show up and vote rather than who the better candidates are. Just look at what happened in Stoneybrook last year.
So please VOTE.
