Many customers of the well-regarded Brown Academy daycare center in Gateway were stunned earlier this week as the daycare’s owner, Frances Brown Cerniglia, announced she had sold her company.

In a letter to parents Cerniglia said that Ms. Shanna had been promoted to daycare’s Director position, and that, “it is with mixed emotions that I must share the news that we have sold BROWN Academy. An opportunity presented itself and with the reorganization of our administrative team and my desire to go back to school, it seemed like the right time and decision for our family. The new owners, Mr. & Mrs. Eric Lepore, chose BROWN for the same exact reasons as you did. They are very happy with our program and are extremely thrilled to have someone as qualified and experienced as Ms. Shanna to oversee the day to day operations.”

It is not clear if Shanna is the new director’s first or last name.

Brown Academy has been a fixture in Gateway for nearly a decade, however they will be facing stiff competition in the near future as Creative World will be building a $1.75 million facility right across the street from the 7-Eleven on Gateway Boulevard.

Cerniglia will remain with Brown Academy in a transition phase until June 30. We will reach out to the Lepores in July to see what their plans are for Brown going forward.
