The South Trail Fire Department will be building a new 3-bay fire station at the corner of Gateway Boulevard and Fairway Lakes Drive, directly across the street from the 7-Eleven.

South Trail currently has a fire station beside Gateway Charter Elementary School, however the department is concerned about its response times to the northern end of Gateway – specifically the Stoneybrook community.

Obviously this means a new traffic light will finally have to be installed at the intersection of Gateway Boulevard and Griffin Drive.

Many in Gateway feel a traffic light at that intersection is long overdue, however those people may still have to wait awhile. The new station isn’t expected to be ready for at least three years, and possibly as long as five years.

STFD may share the location with Lee County EMS, meaning ambulances could be based at the new station as well.
