Most days, the staff at Alta Resources at 12600 Gateway Boulevard are helping people find health insurance plans. But earlier this month, the group took a break from those tasks to have some fun for a good cause.

In an employee event benefiting the MDA Muscle Walk of Fort Myers, Alta staff raised $4,200 playing corn hole, mini-golf, basketball and other carnival games, all while enjoying hot dogs and refreshments.

“Our employees are enthusiastic about supporting our community, and MDA does wonderful work,” said Paul Makurat, Alta’s managing director in Fort Myers, adding “This is a great cause to support.”

The funds raised will be used to support MDA’s research for breakthroughs in muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases.

Alta employees had previously held a similar event in September 2015 to benefit the United Way.

Alta is based in Neenah, Wisconsin and also has service centers in Michigan, California and the Philippines.

The company’s Gateway facility is mostly used as a call center assisting people who wish to enroll in Affordable Care Act health plans.
