The Gateway Griffins high school football team hosted breakfast at Stevie Tomato’s Sports Page restaurant in Fort Myers on Saturday, September 26th.

All you can eat bacon, eggs, pancakes and toast was available for $10 per person, with a portion of the proceeds going to the football program.

The Griffins played the night before, unfortunately losing to the Lake Placid (FL) Dragons by a score of 32-14.

Gateway Charter High School switched conferences this year and now are playing against much better opponents than in years past. The program is adjusting and is off to an 0-4 start, however they very nearly beat the Evangelical Christian High School Sentinels two weeks ago. The final in that game was Sentinels 38, Griffins 37.

Despite the team’s struggles on the field, support for the Griffins was still quite high and there was an excellent turnout to their breakfast event. It’s not yet known how much money was raised for the team.

Gateway Charter’s next game is Friday, October 2, 2015 against the Labelle Cowboys.

The game will be played at East Lee County High School. Kickoff is at 7:00pm.
