Back in January 2015, the Gateway Services Community Development District applied for a grant to help pay for the replacement of the soccer stadium lights at the Sherman Soccer Complex.
It was a Land and Water Conservation Fund (US department of the Interior) grant, for which the application process was overseen by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The Gateway Sun has learned that the GSCDD’s grant application was rejected.
As we understand it, an honest mistake in was made during the application process which led to the rejection. Apparently there was an oversight regarding an inquiry that was received by the GSCDD about the district’s application.
The GSCDD reports that they have identified a new grant possibility through the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program to help pay for the field lighting improvements, and district staff will be seeking permission from the Board of Supervisors to submit an application in August 2015.
According to a memo obtained by the Sun, there will be no cost to Gateway residents for applying for the new FRDAP grant.
