When your soccer team’s record is 48 wins, 9 losses and 3 ties, sometimes your biggest challenge can be finding someone to play against who actually is a challenge.

That won’t be a problem for the Florida Knights U10 squad in June as the team is headed to Dallas, Texas to take on other youth super-teams from around the country in the Premier SuperCopa tournament.

Joining the Knights in Dallas will be Chicago Magic PSG (11-1-0), KC Fusion (30-7-2) from Shawnee, Kansas, as well as the Fresno Chaos (39-12-8) from Fresno, California.

A couple of pretty awesome local Dallas teams be participating too, namely the Dallas Texans Dynamo 05 club who boast a 41-3-1 record, along with FC Dallas Premier Red who are an impressive 47-3-2.

Representing Florida along with the Knights will be the U10 squad from the Orlando City Soccer Club. We weren’t able to find their won-loss record but Orlando City SC made it to the semi-finals of last year’s Premier SuperCopa tournament so chances are they’re a pretty talented bunch of kids.

The Premier SuperCopa tournament will take place June 5-7, 2015 at MoneyGram Soccer Park in Dallas.

The Knights are based out of jetBlue Park in Gateway, with over half the U10 team’s players having received training through the Gateway Soccer Association. The U10 team is coached by Brandon Bennett and have won several tournaments in the last year including the Adidas Columbus Day Cup, the GPS Labor Day Junior Showcase and the Plantation Thanksgiving Day Classic.

Adding to their recent accolades, the Knights were on the front page of the Feburary 2015 issue of The Corridor magazine.

“They play with an edge. And it’s an edge you can’t coach – it’s something that you work with. They do not want to lose, if they are down they will out-work a team to out-play that team to get a win,” Bennett said of his players on the club’s website.

To help offset the costs of going to Dallas the U10 team is holding a golf tournament on May 30, 2015 from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at the Gateway Golf and Country Club.

According to information from the Knights: The proceeds from this event will fund our local U10 Boys Florida Knights competitive soccer team on the Road to the Dallas Super Copa in June. This premier tournament provides the highest level of competition for this age group in the United States. Our local team will be one of the top 24 teams that was selected to participate. It is a great opportunity for the boys to represent our community on this National stage!

The cost to enter the tournament is $125 per player, or $400 for a four-some. If you are a member of the Gateway Golf and Country Club you are eligible to play for a discounted rate.

And … of course … there’s prizes! The drive that’s closest to the pin, the longest drive, the longest putt will all be awarded. There’s an auction, raffle and dinner is included in the day’s events.

If you’re interested in playing, or if your business is interested in helping out the tournament through a sponsorship, please contact Doug Banks at 239-789-8020 or by emailing banksfla@embarqmail.com.

The U10 Knights have had to play against older kids in the area in order to have the best opportunity to grow as players and as a team – but that won’t be the case in Dallas.

They’ll be playing against kids their own age.

In fact, they’ll be playing against some of the best kids their age in America. Only the top youth soccer teams in the country are invited to play in the Premier SuperCopa.

It’s great to see that kids from Gateway, and kids who grew up practicing and playing in Gateway have earned this opportunity to prove themselves at this very high level. It will be an excellent test for Coach Bennett and his players, and we wish the Knights all the best in Dallas.
